What is a Kappa anyway?
Well, since you're here instead of looking it up, I'll give you a brief overview.
A kappa is a water creature in Japanese folklore. A kappa has the bill of a duck and shell of a turtle. Kappa's also have divots in their head where water gathers. Legend has it that if you bow to a kappa, the kappa MUST be respectful and bow back, spilling all the water in their head. The kappa will freeze in place and stay that way forever unless some kind soul goes fills its head up with water from the river where the kappa was born.
Usually kappa are tricksters or troublemakers. Most of the time these are harmless pranks, but are also often up to more evil things like drownings. You might also remembering them being mentioned in Harry Potter, Lupin brought one for class in book three.

Why is the con named Kappa Kon?
South Milwaukee Anime Club back in 2011 was the creators of Kappa Kon. They put in suggestions back during planning our first convention in 2011. After narrowing down the list to a few choices, we voted for Kappa Kon, and that's been the name of the convention ever since.
